The history of the Club

The Bowls Club was formed in 1921 as part of the Courtaulds factory's sports club and is located in the Courtaulds Sport Ground off the Colchester road. The recently extended Clubhouse is owned by the Club and the bowls green is rented from the Town Council who maintain it.

The Club is affiliated to Bowls England, Essex County Bowls Associations, North West Essex Bowls Association, North Essex County Bowls Federation and North West Essex Ladies Triples League.

Most of the Club's matches and leagues are 'Open' (i.e. open to male and female players) but Club competitions do have some segregated elements and there is a ladies only league.

Outside of the lawn bowls season the Club provides opportunities to play Carpet Bowls and to attend Social events.
